Welcome to Open State.
Open State begins from a gap many people know well. A place can be full of opportunity and still be difficult to enter. You may know what you want to do but not who to ask, which information to trust, or how one small decision connects to the next. That uncertainty is expensive in time, energy, and confidence.
We are beginning in Johor because daily life has to be understood close up. Johor sits beside Singapore and at the heart of a growing cross-border region, but its future will be shaped by what happens between people here: a resident sharing local knowledge, a newcomer being welcomed, a business keeping its word, and a volunteer making the first introduction. Those ordinary exchanges will decide whether the region’s ambition improves anyone’s life.
I want Open State to make those exchanges easier. It should help someone find a place, understand an option, ask for support, meet people with a shared interest, and keep track of what happens next. When someone arrives looking for a new home or a fresh start, the experience should feel considered from the first question through the day they can say, “I know how to move here now.”
That requires trust. Open State should feel calm on the surface and disciplined underneath. It should remember only what you choose to share. It should distinguish a verified record from a suggestion, explain when something is uncertain, and never imply that a service is booked, available, or official before it is confirmed. Privacy and consent belong in every product decision from the beginning.
This first chapter is for listening. Every request tells us where a process still asks too much of people. Every saved preference shows us what should become easier. Every correction helps us separate what sounds useful from what is useful in Johor.
We will build in public carefully. We will say what works, what is still being tested, and where a human needs to step in. We welcome residents, local businesses, partners, volunteers, and people from neighbouring countries who share the same hope for a more open and respectful region. Support can take many forms: a useful introduction, honest criticism, a place at the table, or the decision to help someone else rise.
Johor is the first place we are responsible to. If we can help people move through life here with more clarity and belonging, we can carry those lessons across the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and, one day, farther. We will not skip the work on the ground to reach that future.
