Open State · Johor, Malaysia · JS-SEZ
One Johor. One community. Open to the world.
Open State, also written OpenState or Open State Asia, helps people discover Johor, ask local questions, join communities, compare reviewed local offers and carry practical requests through. It starts in Johor and supports people and businesses connected to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone as reviewed coverage grows.
What Open State does
Open State helps people live, work, settle, visit and build in Johor. It brings published local information, Open State AI, events, communities, reviewed offers and practical requests together in one account.
Members can discover places and services, ask questions, save plans, join communities, compare published offers and track requests. Local businesses can apply to publish current information and submit structured offers for separate review. Details appear only when they are published, reviewed or confirmed.
What is live now
Open State is a live and evolving web platform. Current capabilities include published local discovery, Open Map and selected district journey pilots, Open State AI with text and supported voice, events and saved plans, community matching and eligible member chat, guided requests with status tracking, Passport identity and privacy controls, and a marketplace for reviewed offers and approved partner applications.
How Open State works
- Discover. Browse published places, businesses, services, events, communities and available district journeys with source and status details.
- Ask. Ask a locally grounded question using published information and the preferences you choose to share. Turn any gap into a focused request.
- Act. Save event plans, submit guided requests and follow their status. Providers, prices and availability appear only after confirmation.
- Belong. Choose what Open State may use, receive relevant community matches, join published circles and open available member chats while managing privacy in Passport.
Open Map is an evidence-gated publication surface. Unverified pins, market metrics and local claims remain out of the live map until their source, review state and last-checked date are ready.
Who is Open State for?
Open State is built with Johoreans and local businesses. It is open to Malaysians, people connected to Singapore and newcomers of every nationality who live, work, study, visit, invest or build here.
Shukran
Founder of Open State
I am building Open State from Johor with a simple belief: people should be able to understand where they are, meet across differences and take the next step with more trust.
- Johoreans and local residents: useful local information, events, communities and practical help for everyday life.
- People connected to Singapore: Johor context for commutes, recurring visits, family plans and cross-border routines.
- Newcomers of every nationality: local-area context, support and relevant communities with preferences under member control.
- Families and caregivers: family-relevant places, events and communities shaped by details members choose to share.
- Founders, professionals and workers: local discovery, communities and guided requests for work, business setup and investment questions.
- Local businesses and organisers: a reviewed route to possible publication after confirmation.
Johor, Singapore and the JS-SEZ
The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is a designated economic zone in southern Johor covering the Iskandar Development Region and Pengerang. The zone itself does not span both countries. Official sources describe more than 3,500 square kilometres, nine flagship zones and 11 promoted sectors. Official targets call for 50 projects in five years, 100 within ten years and 20,000 skilled jobs.
Open State independently addresses the everyday coordination layer: helping people understand local options, helping reviewed businesses become discoverable and turning local intent into practical, trackable action. Open State is not a government portal, immigration service, investment authority or official representative of the JS-SEZ.
For businesses, services and organisers
Businesses and service providers can apply, submit current business and service details, and propose structured offers. Open State reviews authority, public information and offers separately before publication. Application or payment alone does not guarantee approval, visibility or ranking.
- Apply with current authority, service area and public details.
- Submit structured offers for separate review and publication.
- Keep prices, availability and next steps current and clearly labelled.
Languages and global welcome
People of every nationality are welcome. The core product interface currently supports English, Bahasa Melayu, Simplified Chinese, Tamil, Japanese and Korean. Not every public page or local source is fully translated, and future language coverage will grow only after accuracy and cultural context are reviewed.
Coverage now expanding
Open State is increasing reviewed local records, business supply, evidence-ready map coverage, district journeys, corridor context and reviewed public translations. Coverage expands only after source, review and accuracy checks.
The 2030 direction
Open State's direction is practical: six-language access for people, reviewed distribution for local businesses, member-controlled identity and communities, and trackable steps from questions to outcomes. The aim is to help more residents, newcomers and operators participate as Johor becomes more connected to Singapore and the wider world. This is not an autonomous government system or a promise of investment returns.
Open State and Open States are different
Open State is not Open States. Open States is a separate United States legislative data project. The only canonical Open State website is openstate.asia.
Clear answers
What is Open State?
Open State is a Johor-first platform for source-backed local discovery, Open State AI, events, communities, reviewed offers and practical requests. It helps a question become a clear next step while keeping member identity, preferences and privacy under member control.
What can members do today?
Members can use Discover and Open Map, ask by text or supported voice input, save event plans, join available communities, compare published marketplace offers, submit guided requests, follow status and manage preferences and privacy in Passport. Results and actions depend on what has been published, reviewed or confirmed.
How is Open State different from search, maps or general AI?
Search, maps and general AI help people find or interpret information. Open State also keeps the local record, the member’s chosen context, the action path and its status together. An answer can become a saved plan, a community connection or a reviewed request.
How does Open State support the JS-SEZ?
Open State focuses on the everyday participation layer around the JS-SEZ. It helps people understand Johor, helps reviewed local supply become discoverable and gives residents, workers, visitors, founders and service providers a clearer path from regional growth to practical local action.
Is Open State an official government or JS-SEZ platform?
No. Open State is independent. It is not a government portal, immigration service, investment authority or official representative of the JS-SEZ. Regulated decisions must be confirmed through official agencies or licensed advisers.
How can a local business participate?
A business or service provider can create an account, apply to become a partner and submit current details or structured offers. Authority, public fields, offers and paid plans are reviewed separately. Application or payment does not guarantee approval, visibility, ranking or requests.
What is live and what is still being built?
The current product includes Discover, Open Map, Open State AI, events and saved plans, communities, Passport, guided requests, status tracking and a reviewed-offer marketplace. District journeys remain pilots. Published supply, evidence-based spending qualification, corridor services and reviewed translations expand only as sources, rights, operational readiness and accuracy are confirmed.
Does Open State cover Singapore?
Open State begins with Johor and supports Johor-Singapore lives, visits and journeys where reviewed context is available. It is not a complete Singapore marketplace. Broader corridor coverage is a staged direction.
Which languages are supported?
The interface supports English, Bahasa Melayu, Simplified Chinese, Tamil, Japanese and Korean. Coverage of public records depends on source and translation review.
Is Open State Passport a government credential?
No. It is an Open State membership identity used for profile, preferences, communities and privacy controls. It is not a national identity, travel, visa or immigration document.
Why could Open State matter to investors and institutions?
Open State is designed around repeatable local loops: reviewed supply becomes discoverable, member intent becomes structured, actions gain status and completed outcomes reveal where coverage should improve. If adoption and supply grow responsibly, the same operating model can deepen district by district. This is a product architecture, not a promise of investment returns or public authority support.
What is the official Open State website?
The canonical website is openstate.asia. OpenState, Open State Asia and OpenState Asia refer to the same platform. Open State is not Open States, the separate United States legislative data project.
