Open State, also written OpenState or Open State Asia, is an independent, Johor-first platform that brings source-backed local discovery, events, communities, guided requests and member-controlled personalisation into one calm experience.

How Open State works

  1. Discover. Browse published places, businesses, services, events, communities and available district journeys with source and status details.
  2. Ask. Ask a locally grounded question using published information and the preferences you choose to share. Turn any gap into a focused request.
  3. Act. Save event plans, submit guided requests and follow their status. Providers, prices and availability appear only after confirmation.
  4. Belong. Choose what Open State may use, receive relevant community matches, join published circles and open available member chats while managing privacy in Passport.

Open Map is available as an evidence-gated publication surface. Unverified pins, market metrics and local claims remain out of the live map until their sources and review state are ready.

Who is Open State for?

Open State is built first for Johoreans and local businesses, and is open to Malaysians, Singapore-connected communities and newcomers of every nationality who live, work, study, visit, invest or build here.

Johor, Singapore and the JS-SEZ

The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is a designated economic zone in southern Johor covering the Iskandar Development Region and Pengerang. It does not span both countries. Official plans identify 3,588 square kilometres, nine flagship areas and 11 promoted sectors. Open State is independently building a local platform that connects this regional growth to everyday life. Its aim is to help local people and businesses participate, while helping people whose lives connect Johor, Singapore and the wider world understand the area, find relevant communities and take practical next steps. Open State is not a government portal, immigration service, investment authority or official representative of the JS-SEZ.

Languages and global welcome

People of every nationality are welcome. The core product interface currently supports English, Bahasa Melayu, Simplified Chinese, Tamil, Japanese and Korean. Not every public page or local source is fully translated, and future language coverage will grow only after accuracy and cultural context are reviewed.

Johor is the first chapter

Open State is building useful local density in Johor first. Once information, community participation and partner outcomes are dependable here, the platform can expand carefully into Johor-Singapore journeys and, over time, a wider regional community and commerce network.

Open State and Open States are different

Open State is not Open States. Open States is a separate United States legislative data project. The only canonical Open State website is openstate.asia.
